CHAUMONT, NEW YORK

Among my favorite stays was my way-too-short visit to Chaumont, New York, a small village (pop. 624 in 2010) near Watertown. My hosts’ home (“Dante’s Den,” in case you’d like to experience it too, sits right above the Chaumont River. The huge space opened onto the forest, and came complete with two friendly Sheperds.
